} Santa Cruz County occurs as county located on the Pacific coast of California, just south of the San Francisco Bay Area. Its southern coast forms a northward coast of Monterey Bay. When of 2000 its population is 255,602. A county seat is Santa Cruz.

History
Santa Cruz County was one of a original counties of California, created within 1850 at the instance of statehood.
